Celebrating Learning with Journey Epsom Inspiring Insights: Using Critical Reflection to Support Learning

The talented team at Epsom has recently delved into the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF 2.0) during their Learning and Development sessions, a focal point in Season 1 of our Pedagogical Strategy. Leveraging the transformative power of the 4C’s processes and adding a touch of playdough creativity, they embarked on a journey of critical reflection, enriching their understanding and fostering personal growth.

If you have experienced inspiring moments of learning that you would like to share, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am always eager to discover more opportunities to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our centres.

EYLF 2.0

For the EYLF session, we started with our Acknowledgment to Country which is read by a different person each session.

We have learned through developing strong relationships with our team that they learn best from being active during the session, they enjoy visual learning and opportunities for collaboration in small groups. Four stations were set up simultaneously and everyone moved around the stations in small groups.

Station One:

We used Picture This to ask the question, “How is the EYLF represented in your space right now?” Each participant chose a card and used it to explain their individual ideas.

Station Two:

We used Celebrate and Shift and a summary of the changes in the EYLF 2.0 to ask and answer, “How does your curriculum support the changes to the EYLF?” Each group added answers and by the time all groups went around to the station, it was full of rich information.

Station Three:

Mini Self Assessment – “How do you connect the new EYLF to your curriculum and how can your CLT support you with this?”

This station was similar to the celebrate and shift. However, the columns were set our slightly different. It gave an extra element of not only how are implementing the EYLF, but how can we as a CLT support this.

Station Four:

We used playdough as a medium to create a visual representation of the changes to the EYLF. We have some real artists amongst us! This was a great exercise which catered to our kinaesthetic and visual learners and garnered some fun and interesting interpretations.

Finally, we completed a Bus Stop after each round to share our noticing’s. A great session, lots of fun and learning taking place! Delivering the content in this holistic way ensures we are catering for all types of learners and giving our team the best opportunity to not only understand the content but create opportunities for the educators to implement the ideas through creative and varied outlets.
