3 Days Early Learning for Every Child – The New 3 Day Guarantee
From January 2026, every family in Australia will have access to at least three days of subsidised early learning and care each week. This exciting change – called the 3 Day Guarantee – ensures every child has the opportunity to thrive in high-quality early education, no matter their family’s circumstances.
What has changed?
Until now, the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) was split into two parts: one based on combined family income, and one based on activity hours. While the income test determined the subsidy percentage, the number of subsidised hours a child could access was linked to the parent undertaking the least amount of recognised activity. From January 2026, this will change. Regardless of a family’s activity level, every child will receive three days (72 hours per fortnight) of subsidised early education and care.
Families who meet activity requirements, or who care for a First Nations child, will continue to be eligible for up to 100 hours per fortnight.
