Journey Early Learning Centre Burwood is where your child’s journey begins. Our Early Learning Centre provides intentional learning opportunities daily with a focus on literacy and numeracy, language, life skills, music and rhythm, and more. Our Government Approved Funded Kindergarten Program ensures children from three-years-old are prepared for their journey to school. Journey Burwood is purpose-built and is located opposite St Scholastica’s Catholic Primary School, just off the Burwood Highway on Starling Street.

Journey Burwood’s Educational and Developmental Curriculum is developed from the Early Learning Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning Curriculum, based on the individual child’s interests, strengths, family expectations and professional intent. In addition to daily learning experiences, we provide a weekly Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths Program (STEAM), and throughout the week the children participate in regular outings, excursions and incursions such as Sports Program and a Music Program.

We collaborate closely with families through day-to-day professional conversations and hold parent-teacher interviews. Our parents stay informed and connected to their child’s progression with daily program evaluations and learning using our Storypark communication platform.

In order to ensure every child is prepared for school, our Kindergarten classrooms are intentionally designed by our Teachers to align with the Journey Standards and the Early Years Learning Framework and Curriculum. Our Government Approved Funded 3 and 4-Year-Old Kindergarten Classrooms are run by ACCEQA approved Early Childhood Teachers and Qualified Educators. Children enrolling in our 4-Year-Old Kinder Program are provided with ongoing support from teachers in preparation for school through our School Readiness Program.

“Friendly and very good staff and educators. Most importantly, my child is very happy at pick-up and drop-off and brings her bag to go to the centre when it is not her day.”

Lata

Welcome to Journey Early Learning Burwood. My name is Josi and I have been working in the early childhood sector for over 13 years. I started at Camelot, now Journey Richmond as the Lead Educator/Educational Leader in 2013. In 2015, I went on maternity leave and returned to Journey Richmond in 2018 as Assistant Centre Manager/Educational Leader. I had the opportunity to work with all age groups during these years, and I have been involved in many community engagement experiences and sustainability projects together with our team of educators. I’m eager to continue role modelling how to be considerate to our environment, and how to build and maintain a great sense of belonging with our community. I believe in honest and transparent communication with families, children and my team. I feel a strong sense of connection with our existing families and look forward to building meaningful and respectful relationships with new families.

Exploring nature-based play

Children love getting out and exploring in nature. It really is the greatest teacher. Nature based play is a core part of our curriculum. That’s because it teaches them vital life skills including confidence, independence, exploration and cooperation. Playing outside also promotes health and wellbeing and teaches them respect for the environment.
